Projects that have been launched
At the beginning of 2020, we noted of the severe pandemic in Hong Kong, whereby schooling was suspended, and parents and children were trapped home without any outlet. In view of the situation, we called on nearly 40 experienced play therapists with degrees in social worker or counseling in April, and then recruited 200 parents through a number of kindergartens and primary schools. Then, we offered 6 sessions of "Child Parent Relationship Therapy" (CPRT) training for these parents through online groups (6-10 parents in each group) voluntarily. We offered all together 29 groups at the time. The goal was to equip these parents with the skills of play therapy, so that they could be their children's "counselors".
From the establishment of the Association at the end of 2020 to January 2024, the Association has completed another 94 classes, and more than 400 parents have participated in the CPRT training. In the past year or so, we have been working hard to improve the effectiveness of our CPRT training. With the funds from our sponsoring Foundations, we have been able to increase the number of lessons to 7, and to provide free CPRT toy-set to parents who have attended most of the lessons.

We are very grateful in the past that the Association, with the support of the following Charity Funds, can provide CPRT courses for parents of kindergarten or primary school children:

-
Shih Wing Ching Foundation
Project effectiveness
As follow up to the above projects, we surveyed more than 500 parents by structured questionnaires to understand the effectiveness of our CPRT training.
1. Help for parents
-
More in reflecting children's feelings (empathy) 91.6%
-
More specific encouragement for children 90.0%
-
Giving children more choices 90.8%
-
More firm and effective when setting limits or discipline 91.6%
2. Helps to children
-
Enhanced in confidence 90.0%
-
Reduction in tantrums 92.3%
-
Calmed down faster 90.0%
-
Decrease in behavioral problems 93.9%
-
Stronger cooperation with parents 93.9%
Among the respondents, 97.7% of the parents gave the training an overall rating of 8 or above. It indicated that the effectiveness of CPRT training was remarkable. The participating parents showed improvement in their parent-child relationship through learning and practice of CPRT, and likewise, their children also benefitted.
